Whale Watching in Ólafsvík
Láki Tours sails from Ólafsvík harbour on Snæfellsnes and, by its own account, is the only whale watching operator in the area, so whatever surfaces, yours is the only boat looking at it. The company says nowhere in Iceland gives better odds of orcas and sperm whales, adding that sightings are seasonal. Grapevine's Best of Iceland panel has recommended Láki by name for its Westfjords sailings. Of whale watching off this peninsula, the paper notes that even a whale-free trip comes with seabirds overhead and, in clear weather, the distant cliffs of the Westfjords. It is cold and windy out there. Trips last about three hours, warm overalls are provided, and no whales or dolphins means a free ticket to try again. Be at the harbour 30 minutes early.
