Volcano ATV
Eldfell did not exist before 1973. The eruption that built it ran for five months, destroyed around 400 homes and sent out a black lava field that almost swallowed the town; the line where it stopped is still visible. Volcano ATV covers that ground in an hour on automatic two-seat quad bikes: around the lava, into the middle of Eldfell and along the coast, stopping at Prestvík beach, where the fishing vessel Pelagus stranded, and at the spot where Guðlaugur Friðþórsson came ashore in 1984 after five hours in the sea when his boat Hellisey sank, the story behind the film The Deep. Waterproofs, gloves and a helmet with a headset are supplied. Drivers need a licence; passengers must be at least six. It starts at Strandvegur 65, Vestmannaeyjabær.

Come and enjoy with us in a 1 hour ATV tour around the Volcano in Vestmannaeyjar and experience the unique view the island and its surroundings have to offer
During the trip, we will go to Prestvik beach where fishing ship Pelagus stranded, we will also drive around and view the scene where Guðlaugur Friðþórsson came to land after 5-6 km of swimming in the dark and cold sea after Hellisey VE 503 sank. We will drive around the lava and into the middle of the volcano Eldfell and along the coast, where the view is breathtaking.
This trip is recommended for all the family who will enjoy driving around historical sites of Vestmannaeyjar on a fun riding ATV. The ATV´s are automatic and easy to drive so no specific experience is needed. All ATV´s are 2 person where driver needs to have a driving licence, passengers need to be 6 years or older.
This is a guided trip where each person will be provided waterproof jacket and pants,gloves and helmet installed with an communication gadget to listen to tour guide stories when we stop on special historical locations.
