Reykjavík Food Walk

The idea of Icelandic food is changing. The phrase used to conjure up fish, moss and hardship, possibly rotten shark and sheep face too. Wake Up Reykjavík makes the counter-argument on foot: three hours from Harpa with a local guide and up to eight dishes, running from the comfort food that fed Icelanders for centuries through street food to a more refined take on the classics. When the Grapevine tagged along, sceptical about quality and quantity in the land of the $25 hamburger, there was meat soup, a lesson in Iceland's capacity for fads, and rye-bread ice cream that had people asking about buying it in bulk. By the old harbour, some couldn't finish. The tour works because it sparks interest. You might just have to take a nap first.
