Raudasandur - Breathtaking Landscape

Rauðasandur is one of Iceland's most spectacular sites and most famous beach, red colored sand in beautiful settings of black cliffs and blue ocean. If weather and visibility are good we can see all the way to Snæfellsnes peninsula and Snæfellsjökull glacier. The Rauðasandur sandy beach takes its colours from pulverized scallop shells that have accumulated over the centuries. Seals are often seen on the beach, even sunning with their offspring. Our local guide will professionally lead the way through a breath-taking landscape and tell local stories, such as of the forbidden romance between an adulterous couple at the farm Sjöundaá in the beginning of the 18th century, which has been dealt with in literature and theatricals for decades. We will stop at the French Café to enjoy the beautiful view and unique tranquility of Rauðasandur.
