Fjallsárlón Iceberg Boat Tours
Fjallsárlón is the smaller, younger sibling of Jökulsárlón: fewer visitors, smaller icebergs, and a shoreline much closer to the glacier, which comes crawling over the mountain and ends abruptly in a wall of ice above the water. The operator, also called Fjallsárlón, takes you out among the bergs in Zodiac boats that hold ten people at most. Check in at the reception on Fjallsárlón Road in Öræfi, collect a flotation jacket and walk five minutes to the boats: 45 minutes on the water, up to 90 in all. Keep an eye on the ice, since a shrinking iceberg can roll over and send a small tsunami across the lagoon. In winter the same crew drives super jeeps to a blue ice cave in Breiðamerkurjökull, soup included.

Fjallsárlón is an isolated glacial lagoon in the realm of Vatnajökull. Arriving to the lagoon is like stepping into a dreamlike world that offers spectacular sights. Iceland's tallest volcano, the Öræfajökull glacier, looms above the lagoon and reaches down to the water where icebergs break off into the lake and drift serenely around before melting. During the tour we will take you on a journey through time and tell you how the local farmers had to struggle with the forces of nature in their daily lives. We invite you to experience the breathtaking natural scenery as we take you on a guided boat tour along floating icebergs and giant glaciers! Total duration 75-90 minutes thereof 45 min. boat tour.

What's included
Boat tour, warm flotation jacket and a life vest will be provided during the tour.
What to bring
It is good to wear good shoes for walking as the boats are about 5-min walking distance away. A warm hat and gloves are also recommended. Also don´t forget your camera!
