Forest Lagoon
A geothermal spa in Vaðlaskógur, the rare patch of real forest across the fjord from Akureyri, and it exists only because tunnel crews hit hot water while boring through Vaðlaheiði. Two pools around 37°C sit among birch and pine, with trees planted in the water itself; swim-up bars pour local beer, slushies and cocktails, a freestanding Finnish sauna looks out over Eyjafjörður and the Hlíðarfjall ski slopes, and an 11°C cold tub waits for the brave. The forest takes the edge off the wind that leaves other lagoons exposed. Basalt Architects, of Blue Lagoon fame, designed it, with step-free access and individual shower cabins. A wood-clad bistro with a fireplace does the post-dip burger, and a shuttle runs from Hof in town. Open until midnight.

Surrounded by birch and pine trees, guests are invited to slow down, breathe deeply, and connect with the calming energy of the forest.
The lagoon features two geothermal pools. The larger pool (530 m²), kept at a soothing 37°C (98.6°F), includes three swim-up bars and a convenient indoor entrance. The smaller pool (330 m²) maintains the same relaxing temperature, offering a quieter space to unwind.
Enhance your experience in the Finnish-style dry sauna, where temperatures reach around 80°C with low humidity. From here, enjoy panoramic views of Eyjafjörður and the surrounding mountains. For the ultimate refresh, step into the nearby cold pool, cooled to 11°C (51.8°F), and discover the invigorating benefits of hot and cold contrast bathing.
Complete your visit at the Forest Bistro, a wood-clad dining space with fjord views and a cozy indoor fireplace—perfect for enjoying quality food in an unforgettable setting.
