Messinn
Restaurant in Reykjavík
Grapevine pick

About Messinn
Jón Mýrdal ran the bars Húrra and Bravó and always wanted a fish restaurant; Messinn, modelled on Ísafjörður's Tjöruhúsið, has been booked out since it opened on Lækjargata. Fish comes in the pan it was cooked in: cod cheeks with cherry tomatoes and garlic butter, wolffish with red grapes, gravlax to start, a salmon burger for the undecided. Wooden beams, portholes and fish-shaped plates. Grapevine's reviewer, a self-declared Messi eater, found the portions smaller than in the early days but the quality and the fair prices intact. Fifty-five seats, so book; lunch and dinner.
