CityWalk Reykjavík
There's no better way to discover a new city than by foot, and Reykjavík is small enough to be covered that way. CityWalk's small-group tour starts in front of Hallgrímskirkja at the top of the hill and is, as the operator points out, all downhill from there. Over two and a half hours you pass the main landmarks and some well-hidden street art while the guide covers Vikings, elves, politics, the economy, architecture and local dos and don'ts, then sends you off with restaurant, bar and museum tips. Good walking tours feel more like a local friend showing you around than a tour guide, which is the stated aim here. A private version starts from your downtown hotel, is led by a history graduate and comes in five languages.
