Winner of “BEST UNCONVENTIONAL EXPERIENCE” 2026. For the longest time, if you looked up a location in Reykjavík on Google Maps, it would always tell you how close that location was to the Icelandic Phallological Museum, demonstrating the well-earned popularity of the place. The museum’s founding by Sigurður Hjartason in 1997 in some sense “legitimised” his out-of-kilter enthusiasm for collecting the reproductive male organs of mammals, by putting them on display and charging a fee for it. Yes, there is a human specimen, donated in 2011.
