KEX Hostel is a great place to kick off an evening. It’s a hostel bar, but it kind of transcends that description, with an amazing sea view over Faxaflóí and Mount Esja, beautiful decor, spacious tables, and a large wraparound bar with stools to perch on. Mornings are the other half of it: the BAXTUR breakfast buffet runs from seven to ten every day for 2.700 ISK, in a room that still remembers being a biscuit factory, which is what kex means. Beds come as dorms or private rooms, and neither the bar nor the breakfast is reserved for guests — locals are welcome at both.
